annals of earth
The "Annals of Earth" library stands as an extraordinary testament to human ingenuity, offering profound global solutions to the ecological crises of our era. Within its pages, one discovers a collection of visionary love letters to the natural world, each deeply moving and awe-inspiring in their own right.
Over the past 35 years, Ocean Arks has published a regular, environmentally oriented newsletter entitled Annals of Earth, as part of its outreach program, edited by Nancy Jack Todd. Contents are solution oriented. Annals rarely reports on ecological problems without including ways in which people are tackling and solving them. In addition to contributions from the Todds, authors have included David Orr, William Irwin Thompson, and Stephanie Mills. Recent issues featured Kupfer’s interview of the late Earnest Callenbach, as well as articles and illustrations by the late Frederick Franck, the well-known founder of the sanctuary and art gallery Pacem In Terris. Annals was sent to supporters and members of Ocean Arks International, and was printed in newspaper format and published three times a year.
Nancy Jack Todd not only relates a fascinating journey from lofty ideals through the hard realities encountered in learning how to actually grow food, harness the energy of the sun and wind, and design green architecture. She also introduces us to some of the heroes and mentors who played a vital role in those efforts as well, from Buckminster Fuller to Margaret Mead...
